Since Bernardine’s Shanghai Salon came out on November 7th, I’ve had a lot of great highlights from the launch. Three fabulous events in Chicago with three more this spring and a great book club Zoom with Historic Shanghai in January to kick off their new year. I’ve also won an award!
I was a finalist for a Zibby Award, specifically the category of Best Book for the History Lover! I was so fortunate to have been able to receive this award and have some great photos. Thanks to Bernardine’s cousin Nancy, I was also able to see three of the homes where Bernardine lived in LA after she left Shanghai in 1937. I’ll show those in a separate post. In the meantime, enjoy these photos!
I’m nor surprised but delighted – well done congrats!
Thank you so much!! That means a ton!
Dear Susan, Feb. 20, 2024
Utterly delighted to read about your most well-deserved Zibby Award and of course seeing your picture with the award was even more gratifying. So very pleased that your special book entitled “Bernadine’s Shanghai Salon” turned out to be the big winner. Please accept my heartiest congratulations. The judges certainly recognized an outstanding publication when they read one !
Please pardon me for my silence. Wonder if I mentioned that I had TKR (total knee replacement) surgery soon after we saw each other online at the Zoom meeting. last year. The recovery was not easy; but I am thankful that I had an excellent surgeon and am healing
well. For this reason, I apologize for not staying in touch as often as I’d have liked to.
However it’s wonderful news about the award; and in due course I will obtain and read the very special story you brought to life with your unique and most charming style. Hope all is well with you and the family. All my best – Vasantha
I hope you’re feeling better!! Thank you!
