At the end of last month, I reviewed Chan Ho-Kei’s gripping Hong Kong police novel, The Borrowed (Grove, 2017) on the Los Angeles Review of Books’ China Blog. It was one of my favorite books last year and the most gripping Hong Kong novel I’ve probably ever read. If you’re looking for a book to take on vacation or just to curl up with on a cold winter day, this one will keep you occupied for a while. It’s lengthy at almost 500 pages, but each chapter is almost a stand-alone novella.
Happy reading!
