Jake flew to China a month ago today and visited Hidden River, his father’s hometown in Hubei Province. Although I always stayed at my former in-laws’ apartment when I visited, Jake stayed in a hotel there.
So I sent him this photo and asked if this is where he was staying.
“No, I’m at a hotel,” he replied. He must have thought I hadn’t been paying attention when he first mentioned he was at at hotel.
“Oh, I know,” I wrote back. “This was a hotel. It’s where my parents stayed when I got married there 21 years ago. It was the newest hotel in that city then.”
Jake didn’t know of it and obviously the one where he stayed was much more contemporary. From what I saw of the photos at restaurants where they ate last month, Hidden River has become quite modern.
