French Cheese Box

September 6, 2016 By Susan Blumberg-Kason Leave a Comment

On an Air France flight to Paris a few months ago, I got talking to our flight attendant as the plane was landing. When he learned we were staying at the Hotel Beaumarchais, he raved about a restaurant on the same street.

I think we found that restaurant! It was run by two men, a waiter and chef, and was to die for. When dessert came out, the waiter brought a delightful wooden cheese box. And just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, there was no way I could pass up the cheese in that gorgeous box.

After that, I was on an obsessive mission to find a similar cheese box. I asked my friends who know France well where to find this kind of cheese box. After we’d returned to the US, one suggested Amazon France and voila! But the box was made in France and could only be delivered to a French address. Thank goodness for good friends! I had the box sent to her and she just mailed it to me during a quick trip to the US.

Take a look!

My kids love it and were quite amazed to see how it opens and closes like a guillotine and how the shelves slide out. We’re about to tile our kitchen, so need to clear up all the miscellaneous water bottles and coffee thermoses. When the tiling is finished, in goes the cheese box and out go the bottles.
