This is a photo from my first day in Paris, which was two weeks ago this weekend. To get a feel for the city, we walked around the afternoon we arrived. When I saw a sign for the Pompidou Centre, we headed in that direction and found this delightful fountain and sculpture collection. I remember studying Paris in high school 30 years ago and learning about the controversy over the Pompidou Centre, which was new back then. It didn’t fit with the neighborhood–or with Paris at all–but it’s become a well-loved museum and gathering space. It was certainly crowded on a Sunday afternoon.
