Three months ago I met author Sonali Dev outside Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Illinois. I had just finished my first book reading and Sonali recognized me from Facebook. We started talking about our debut books, both out this year. When I found out that she’d be having a book launch on November 2nd, also at Anderson’s, I vowed to block that day off to attend her launch for A Bollywood Affair (Kensington, 2014).
I did make it to her launch last Sunday, but unfortunately had to leave (for a last-minute school meeting I couldn’t get out of) before I could get my copy of A Bollywood Affair signed and take a photo with Sonali.
So yesterday I schlepped my two little ones to her reading at a library in Aurora, Illinois. We got there late, but still in time to hear her read.
The question and answer session was wonderful. Sonali talked about her writing process, showing her manuscript to her family before it was published, and how she developed her characters.
And I finally got my book signed and a photo with Sonali!
