Fun and games at English class, 1991The first year I lived in Hong Kong, I traveled almost two hours (each way) on Saturdays to teach English to a Japanese housewife and her two children.

Mrs. Yoshizawa paid me well, but also cooked me a delicious Japanese lunch after our lessons were over for the day.

They invited me to the kids’ sports day at their Japanese school in Hong Kong, and to impromptu parties at their apartment. Here I’m taking my turn at the Japanese version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

I lost touch with the Yoshizawas after I moved away from Hong Kong at the end of that year. When I returned a few years later, I called them but the number had been disconnected.
