Tea at the Pen

October 14, 2013 By Susan Blumberg-Kason 6 Comments

Over the weekend I met my mother at Chicago’s Peninsula Hotel for afternoon tea. It’s not often that I find myself alone with a few free hours, so I wanted to make the most of it. And what better way to escape the clutter at home than an afternoon at the Pen!

Tea at the Pen 1

This month the Peninsula is serving a special pink afternoon tea to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Ten percent of the pink afternoon tea service goes to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Center at Northwestern University.

The service at the Pen was outstanding. The waitstaff came by frequently to refill our tea pots and to see if we needed anything else, yet they never rushed us.

Other afternoon tea options at the Peninsula include an a la carte menu and champagne.

That looks amazing – I really need to do some serious baking now.

Glad to see you’re having fun!

I wish I could make those desserts. I feel like I’m in desperate need of a vacation/holiday, so little things like this are almost as good as getting out of town!

You’re not alone in the desire for a holiday – it’s not quite halfway through the term, and I’m already looking ahead to the holidays!

Some of the things on the stand aren’t too hard to make, but they’re time consuming… much more fun to let someone else make them, and just sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labour!

I love high tea! And I love that you enjoyed it by yourself. What a terrific way to spend some quality me-time.
