Since I started blogging a few years ago, I’ve learned a lifetime-worth of information about Hong Kong in the 1960s: Russian restaurants, Kai Tak airport, and various hotels. My heart always races (in a good way) when people from around the world e-mail me or send in comments about their experiences in Hong Kong back then.

So I figured I would post another photo of the Sun Ya Hotel to see if anyone remembers staying there (my mom did in 1962), particularly the demographics of the guests (my mom doesn’t remember this particular aspect of the hotel).

I ask because the Sun Ya was far from the touristy area of Tsim Sha Tsui. And while my mom and her travel group most likely stayed there because it was cheap, I wonder what other nationalities frequented the Sun Ya. It wouldn’t have been mainland Chinese at that time.

If you have any information about the Sun Ya, I would love to know more! It’s been a small obsession since I first learned my mom stayed there 50+ years ago.
