So my oldest son, Jake, graduated from middle school today. Although it was a low-key affair, some of the girls went out all out with their five inch heels and cocktail dresses. The boys mostly wore shirts and ties, but Jake insisted on a jacket, too.
It’s always difficult to know what to wear to an occasion like this, so thank goodness for the cheongsam! I feel like I can never go wrong with one.
I chose this light cotton one from the Hong Kong store, Goods of Desire. And to my great surprise, one of the administrators (also a gweipo like me!) wore a more formal cheongsam, too, although it was also knee-length.
My mom is going to have a one-night layover in Hong Kong this autumn. I wonder what she’d say if I asked her to pick me up another few cheongsams there?
Stuart Beaton says
Go on, ask her… what’s the worst she can say?
“No.”
Susan Blumberg-Kason says
I will! But she’s not sure she’ll stop in Hong Kong now. There are so many choices when leaving Burma for the US. Argh.
