Little did I know when I set out for Arizona last week that I’d run into a couple of historic hotels.
Last Thursday my husband and I drove a few hours north to the Grand Canyon. It’s one of our country’s national treasures, and neither of us had visited it in our previous trips to the state so many years ago.
Toward the end of the day, we boarded a bus and drove past El Tovar, a grand old hotel built in 1905. While we didn’t have time to peek inside (or else risk losing another hour of daylight driving back to Sedona; yes, I’m getting old), I looked up El Tovar and found it’s enjoyed quite a guest list throughout its 105 year history.
Presidents Taft, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Ford, and Clinton stayed there, as did Einstein, Paul McCartney, and author Zane Grey.
Although this postcard is an antique, I can verify that the scene in it hasn’t changed much decades later.
