When I told my parents I wanted to move to Hong Kong at the age of 19, they started planning trips to visit me there.
For my mom, having a daughter in Hong Kong didn’t seem out of the ordinary. In her teens, she traveled to the Philippines, her first excursion to Asia. When she was 23, she moved to Nagoya, Japan. For fun, she visited countries like Cambodia, Afghanistan, India, and Nepal, among others, in the mid-1960s.

This is a very interesting blog, I wonder if you will be sharing memoirs from your grandparents and mother over the years..postcards, diary snippets maybe? The TWA ad is really neat. Looking forward to reading your book!

Thanks, Sumita! Yes, I interviewed my mom, grandma, and uncle a few years ago about their travels to Asia in the 60s, hoping to incorporate their experiences in my memoir. I never found a way to include all the information, but now I have this blog! I’m so glad you find it interesting!

Susan, I think back to freshman year in college…I would have never believed the amazing life you have lived.

Thanks so much, Teddy! I shudder to think what would have happened if Goucher hadn’t been so great about study abroad and taking classes at other colleges.
