Since I’m not traveling these days/years, I’ve been thinking about trips I’d like to take when it’s safe again and Mexico City always comes to mind. It was my first trip out of the US (that I recall) and one I’ll always remember.
My dad did not believe in beach vacations. Instead, he enjoyed cities and all they have to offer. In Mexico, we soaked in murals, architecture, parks, and restaurants. We also traveled to Puebla and saw the pyramids. Here are some photos from Mexico City.

Lovely photos! I was directed to your post as a result of some book project research I’m involved with at the moment. I lived there for a time when I was age 11 during 1982. I love how your photos really captured my memories of the way the city looked at that time. I have returned a handful of times to CDMX (what I used to know as the DF), as recently as the past fall, and the city still retains its vibrant history and amazing energy. Thank you for sharing your memories!

I’m so happy to hear this! We are about the same age! I would love to read your book when it’s published. Please keep me posted. I can even review it here if you’d like!

Many thanks for the offer to review the book once it is (hopefully) published! Very kind. I’d love to stay connected about it.
By the way, when did you visit Mexico City in 1982? I was living there from January to July and the book I’m working on now, as a co-author, is based on my experiences there. It’s not a memoir, but a novel heavily influenced by my experiences and observations during that time.
Any top tips for a first-time author would be greatly appreciated! Having so much fun right now reflecting, recalling, and researching on the time I was there and look forward to putting more time soon into the first draft.

I am so hopeful that you will find the perfect publisher! CDMX is so popular now as a tourist destination for people who seek out culture. I would be more than happy to talk about publishing if you want to email me at susan at susanbkason dot com.
I was there in December 1982 and January 1983. My brother still has vivid memories from that time, so I can always ask him what he remembers.

Thank you so much again. I will follow up with you to see when you have time for a conversation. I have plans to head back to Mexico later this year for research and travel purposes, so I imagine immersing back into that rich culture will help my writing process.
I’m always interested in what people who visited during the early 80s recall of Mexico City. I’d love to hear about your brother’s memories, too. So much of the ancient history is obviously the same, but I was very surprised how much more had changed in terms of the American and European (and other) business influences on the city and its culture. It certainly wasn’t easy to find all of those things as a kid living there in 1982 – I was so homesick for so much about the States, and it all felt so far away from me then. I’ll be in touch soon to connect again. Thank you!

Wow nearly 40 years ago and an early vintage Susan! – Mexico looked much quieter of course and no smiling for the camera please! But at least the travelling bug was sown perhaps? You look more relaxed with photo shots these days?

Haha, thank you! That was the 12 year old in me! It’s a good thing we all change over the years and aren’t perpetually 12! Or most of us, I’d say!
