Art Deco in Paris

July 6, 2016 By Susan Blumberg-Kason 1 Comment

I learned about Art Deco in Shanghai, but went to its birthplace last month and stumbled across a few residential buildings with beautiful Art Deco characteristics. I thought I would find more such buildings, but that’s probably because I wasn’t able to see the whole city.

This corner building screams Art Deco: the round overhang on top, the oval balconies, long vertical design motifs, and the lines in the balcony ironwork.

This one has a slightly rounded corner and long, vertical design motifs, but also ziggurat-shaped balconies and detailing on the top floor.

This building has a rounded corner, but its defining feature is its cruise ship look, especially at the top.

I wish I’d had more time to explore the neighborhoods and find other examples of Art Deco architecture, but there’s always the next trip.

Do you have a favorite style of architecture?
