A night with CASL

December 5, 2015 By Susan Blumberg-Kason 4 Comments

I’ve had so much fun this autumn volunteering with the Chinese American Service League in Chicago. I started teaching English to two classes of senior citizens and have recently added a craft class. My kids have gone with me a couple times. We even made a local Chinese newspaper or two.

Last night I took my husband Tom to CASL’s winter fundraiser at the fabulous Bridgeport Art Center. We had never been to this event space.

Once we entered the building, we found ourselves in front of an old warehouse elevator which had a bar inside serving wine and Moscow Mules.

On the second floor, there were stations of food from different Chicago restaurants and a silent auction.

Tom and I saw a couple people we knew, which was great fun. I also met Judy Hsu from ABC Chicago’s Channel 7 News.

We had such a great time and can’t wait for the spring gala at the Field Museum. The Terracotta Warriors from Xian will be on loan there! CASL provides social services to everyone from babies to seniors. My son Jake studied Mandarin there a decade ago.

What a wonderful evening! The space was just gorgeous and you looked stunning in your dragonfly qipao. I hope they raised some good money to support the center.

Thank you so much! I think they raised quite a bit. The big gala is this spring and it’ll be at our natural history museum featuring some of the Terra Cotta Warriors on loan from Xian. It should be so much fun!
