The Cathay Cinema on Borneo

September 3, 2014 By Susan Blumberg-Kason 1 Comment

I remember seeing the Gerard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell movie, Green Card, when I went to Malaysia with my mother.

But it wasn’t until I became reacquainted with my travel photos this past weekend that I realized it was at this lovely old Cathay Cinema in Kuching.

I went to the Cathay Cinema in Shanghai several years later and have an mild obsession with all things Cathay (Shanghai’s Peace Hotel was first known as the Cathay. And I love Cathay Pacific Airlines!)

    Hello Susan,
I’m Marian Chin,Editor of KINO magazine (Kuching-In-‘N Out). We have an article about Kuching cinemas in the 50s and 60s and I came across your photo of the Cathay Cinema. Myself from that era, I would love to somehow use your photo in the upcoming article.

KINO is an independent magazine that I started 5 years ago out of passion for Culture, Food and Lifestyle. It’s a local to local magazine, documenting what we had and have, perpetuating interests in our diverse and multicultures. Do check it out on http://www.kuchinginandout.com or on Google Play under KINO mag

I hope to hear from you.

    Thank you,
    Sincerely,
    Marian Chin
