Nicki Chen has lived in places most of us can only dream about: verdant Washington State, where she grew up and now makes her home, but also the tropics of the Philippines and the South Pacific.
Her late husband grew up on a little known island in China called Gulangyu, which is the setting of her new novel, Tiger Tail Soup (Dog Ear Publishing, 2014). Based on her husband’s family’s experiences during WWII, Tiger Tail Soup tells the story of a brave woman’s resilience to keep her family safe during the Japanese occupation.
Her writing is gorgeous, which really comes through in her books about faraway places like Gulangyu and the South Pacific (the latter of which is the setting of her current work in progress).
You can read more about Nicki and her writing on her blog, Behind the Story.
