Since I announced my book deal last week, friends have encouraged me to celebrate to the fullest. I must say that I have enjoyed an action-packed week.
First my sister-in-law sent me a beautiful arrangement of flowers. A couple days later I flew to Washington, DC, which was great fun. But I had already planned that trip months before the deal.
Last year I saw these cute charms at the fabulous Hong Kong home and accessories store, Goods of Desire. I told myself I would buy a few if I landed a book deal (and hoped they would still be in stock when that happened).
Much to my luck, these charms were available. The three in this photo arrived today. First, I chose the pink pig because my daughter was born in the Year of the Pig.
I picked the red thermos because I often used them in Hong Kong when I lived in the university dorm. And in China many, many times.
And I love old school Hong Kong mailboxes, so I chose a mailbox charm, too.
Goods of Desire sells other iconic Hong Kong charms: mahjong tiles, indoor slippers, spittoons, clay cooking pots, watering cans, and ping pong paddles, among others.
It was difficult to exercise enough restraint to only buy three!
