Cathay Pacific amenity kit winner

December 10, 2012 By Susan Blumberg-Kason 1 Comment

I always get extra excited when I receive a package from Hong Kong. On Saturday it was a package of books, including my book of the week. And today I found this package from Cathay Pacific at my front door.

A couple weeks ago I entered a Cathay contest to win one of their limited edition premium economy amenity kits designed by one of my favorite stores in Hong Kong: Goods of Desire. To enter, I just needed to submit a short description of a recent flight experience on Cathay.

Right up my alley.

(Earlier this year I posted a picture of the Year of the Dragon stuffed animal I received from Cathay for booking a flight during their Chinese New Year promotion. I also wrote about my many purchases at Goods of Desire in April.)

Four days after I sent in my letter for this contest, I heard from Cathay that I’d won! Here’s the lovely amenity kit.

The inside contents include a pair of slipper socks, an eye mask, a pair of ear plugs, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a 10% coupon to be used at any G.O.D. location in Hong Kong.

Here’s my letter:

Dear Sir or Madam:

When I saw your amenity kit contest, I couldn’t wait to write about my recent inflight experience on Cathay Pacific.

I had lived in Hong Kong for most of the 1990s and hadn’t been back since I left in 1998. When Cathay Pacific had it’s Year of the Dragon discount fares from Chicago to Hong Kong earlier this year, I asked my husband if he wanted to go to Hong Kong. Right away he said yes! Hong Kong has always been my favorite city, and a place that I think about every day.

It was my first flight on Cathay, and it lived up to all of the great things I had heard about the airline when I was in my twenties. My husband and I purchased extra legroom and felt like we were in business class. It was very comfortable and the staff was so friendly.

A few hours into the flight, I went back to the lavatory and noticed that another passenger was eating cup noodles. The cup had the Cathay logo, so I walked to the galley and asked a flight attendant if I could have one, too. He said he would bring it to my seat after he prepared it. I started to tell him my seat number, but before I could finish, he completed my sentence. He knew my exact seat! I was so impressed! And sure enough, five minutes later, he brought me cup noodles and asked if he could get me another soda water (which I had ordered earlier on the flight). Little things–like remembering a passenger’s drink or knowing where she is sitting–left a lasting and wonderful impression.

I’m anxious to get back to Hong Kong (and shop at Goods of Desire), and now that Cathay Pacific flies to Chicago, I will try not to let so much time pass before my next trip.

Thank you!

Very nice – I hope we get something like this when we travel Cathay in January!
