Last month I blogged about my quest for the perfect qipao, the gorgeous Chinese form-fitting, Mandarin-collared dress. I’m still on that search, but with today being Easter I’ve been thinking of something else.
According to BeautifulGirl.co.nz, the ideal accessories that go with Qipaos are, baskets.
Easter baskets, yes, a bit. But more than that, I’ve been mulling over the kind of basket that’s a must for any qipao.
Like this one I bought in Hong Kong 15 years ago. It’s the perfect accoutrement for any qipao, long or short. I can imagine Suzie Wong carrying a purse like this in Wanchai, which is where I purchased my basket purse (Queen’s Road East, to be more specific).
I think Suzie would agree.
And it seems like mainstream American fashion icons also appreciate this look. Check out one of Kate Spade’s many basket purse designs, which costs more than US$200.
Or what about Tory Burch’s version of the basket, also priced upwards of US$200.
And the best part of this story is that I only paid US$30 for my basket purse. It’s not a name-brand designer bag, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
