A day in the clouds, 1962

Hong Kong, 1962

I found another box of old slides at my mom’s apartment last week. When I saw a box labeled “Hong Kong, 1962”, I claimed it for my own (or at least until I could scan them).

This is one slide in that new batch.

My mom took this photo in the summer of 1962, months before her 21st birthday.

If I wasn’t already completely taken with Hong Kong, I think this slide would have done it for me. The clear sky, the lush green mountains, the open air cafe.

And check out that funky camera on the white table cloth.

The camera isn’t the only thing outdated in this photo. I’ve heard the air in Hong Kong is so polluted these days that sometimes you can’t even see across the harbor.
