Postcard from Lisbon

Planes, trains, and…trams! For some reason, I’ve always had a thing for trams. Funiculars, trams, street cars–if a city I visit employs any of these as a means of transportation, I’m there.

My friend Vanessa so generously sent me this gorgeous postcard from Lisbon.

It’s not only a propos because I honeymooned in Lisbon almost five years ago to the day, but also because one of the things I wanted to do in Lisbon was to ride a tram.

My husband was already used to my quirky travel requests and patiently humored me while we boarded a yellow number near our hotel and rode it to the terminus, ending up in a hilly residential neighborhood.

A couple weeks ago The New York Times featured an article about spending 36 hours in Lisbon. One of the photos featured in the print version showed–yes–a yellow tram. If you you click on the article, you can find this photo in the slide show.
