Picnic at Shinrin Koen, 1964

I came across this image early on in my slide scanning project, but I’ve often thought back to it 500 slides later.

My mom took this photo around Halloween 1964 at her school picnic at Shinrin Koen (which translates into forest park). She’d been teaching at the Nagoya International School for about two months at that point and joined the faculty, staff, and families of students for a relaxing outing one weekend.

To me, this photo could have been taken anywhere in the world.

But the fashions certainly date it: the man in the middle wearing his hat; the women in their long skirts; the thick dark framed glasses; the men in their dress pants and shirts.
