I found this image while scanning my mom’s  slides from the early to mid-1960s. It’s pretty, isn’t it?

The lush fields, the fascinating rock formations, the blue sky above the mountain range. But the box in which it came was unmarked (only one of several unmarked boxes, thank goodness).

Luckily my mom stopped by yesterday. So I asked her to look at the slides I’d scanned so far, including the ones in the unmarked box. When we came to this slide and others like it, she started to recall details from that trip.

She took this photo outside Bamian, Afghanistan.
