Why flying was fun

Last Saturday, Thai Airways International relived its maiden flight 50 years ago to the day. And where was this inaugural destination? Hong Kong, of course.

My friend Charlene works for Thai International and sent me these photos of the nostalgic flight that left from Bangkok on Saturday.

Instead of flying a DC-6B aircraft, Thai International painted a 747 with the original logo. And instead of flying into Hong Kong’s legendary Kai Tak Airport, this flight landed at the ‘new’ airport at Chek Lap Kok. All passengers on that commemorative flight received a retro boarding pass, written out by hand.

If you’re fortunate to fly Thai International this year, look for special promotions to celebrate their golden anniversary.

Happy Birthday, Thai International!
